Luigi Abete


Luigi Abete (Rome, February 17, 1947) is an entrepreneur, business executive and Italian banker.

Belonging to a family of Samnite origin, Luigi Abete graduated in law and specialized in trade union law, is president of the Banca Nazionale del Lavoro, SpA and CEO of A.BE.TE (Beneventana Printing Publishing Company), a family business operating in Graphics, founded in 1946 by Father Antonio Abete. Also serves on the board of directors of Farmitalia Carlo Erba.

In 1978 he was elected president of the National Committee of Young Entrepreneurs ". He later chaired the Comieco (Consortium National Packaging Recovery and Recycling of Cellulose-based) and, therefore, has been elected vice president Confindustria, left office in 1982 at the end of the last two years (maximum allowed by statute Confindustria) remains, however, the "Governing Council" of the federal government and in 1992 he was elected president of Confindustria, a post he held until 1996. The charge for BNL, and other banks was on the application of interest rates than those fixed by law. Among the other defendants appeared excellent Cesare Geronzi, ex presidente di Capitalia; Dino Marchiorello, ex presidente della Banca Antonveneta.

Il 7 novembre 2007 è stato assolto dal tribunale di Palmi, insieme agli altri otto imputati, con formula piena e nello specifico "per non aver commesso il fatto".

Il 22 giugno 2007 l'Università del Sannio, che ha la propria sede a Benevento, città di cui la famiglia Abete è originaria, gli ha conferito la laurea honoris causa in Economia e Commercio.

È fratello di Giancarlo Abete, imprenditore grafico e presidente FIGC, in passato è stato sposato con Gabriella Rosito (madre dei suoi figli Antonio e Caterina).
